Why does President Obama want to address students?

It seems to me that people are split about 50/50 on this issue. For those saying, 'what's the big deal?' - this is my view.

First, if it was only a motivational speech, you know... stay in school, work hard, etc... no big deal. That's ok. But President Obama already has a history of politicizing issues that should not be politicized by the Office of the President. His job is to listen to the people, not tell the people what's best for them, because he thinks he knows better. We are in charge. Or, at least, we are supposed to be.

My fear is that he is going to preach about his agenda and values, not mine and what I want to teach my children.

I also wonder why he doing this when school has just started. Teachers are really busy getting their kids in line, and routines established. Especially elementary school kids. Will Kindergarten kids really understand what he is saying to begin with?

Most of the controversy could probably be avoided if he would just post his speech transcript before the live speech, and then stick to the script. Didn't he push government transparency?

I completely agree. Why doesn't he reveal what he is going to be talking about? I guess we'll find out tomorrow.
